Burgas Art Gallery is located in the former Jewish synagogue, built in the years of 1905-1910 according to plans of the Italian architect Ricardo Tuscany. With the collaboration of Burgas prominent public figures, artists and cultural figures the gallery was established on April 7th 1947 under the name “Art Gallery and Museum”, with a collection consisting of 58 paintings and 6 sculptures. In September 1966 the “Art Gallery”, namely is arranged in a specially restored building of the Jewish synagogue. Today, the exposition occupies three floors, where the best of its collection is presented, containing over 2000 exhibits – paintings, sculpture and graphics. Burgas Art Gallery is proud to presents a collection of Strandja icons, dated between the 17th – early 20th century. Unique frescoes were found during the restoration works in the 90’s under the synagogue’s dome, which completed the interior of this architectural monument of national significance.
