The monument is situated in place of a previously existed Russian military
infirmary created by Alexandra Lermontova, the daughter of Colonel Lermontov.
In May 1879 she came to Burgas with the 4th Army Corps lead by the famous
General Skobelev. Here A. Lermontova assisted the training of medical
personnel; the establishment of a new hospital and purchased the medical
equipment from her own funds.
Russian soldiers
from the 24th infantry Division erected this monument in memory of their
comrades from 93rd Irkutsk and 94th Yenisei infantry regiment, who died
from cholera and typhus at the end of the Russo Turkish War (1877 –
1878).
